The 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 50 is not the first special edition model that will mark the 50th anniversary. The company already rolled out the Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster Edition 50, the C43 Coupe and Cabriolet as well as the C43 Cabriolet Ocean Blue Edition earlier this year at the Geneva Auto Show. The GT3 Edition 50 track special just premiered at the 24 Hours Nürburgring this past weekend.

Exterior and Interior

Special touches to the design include a brand-new pain job that is adorned with “50 YEARS AMG” logos. The intake and exhaust systems come without the restrictor plates that are usually found on most racing vehicles. The celebratory theme continues onto the interior as well. There you can find a special “50 YEARS OF DRIVING PERFORMANCE” inscription on the seats, as well as a “Edition 50 – 1 of 5” badge on the dashboard. The special few who are lucky enough to get their hand on the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 50 will also get a IWC watch that will be built specially for the car.

Engine and Powertrain

This special edition model is based AMG’s GT3 race car, meaning that it will come with the same 6.2-liter V-8 engine instead of the newer 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 that is used by the GT road car. This 6.2 liter V8 can deliver up to 550 horsepower when mated to a 6-speed sequential manual transmission. It can also take the GT3 race car from zero to 60 mph in 2.9 sec, and zero to 100 mph in 6.5 sec at the top speed of 185-200 mph. So, we expect the Edition 50 will be able to do the same.

2017 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 50 Release Date and Price

Being a limited edition, we expected that the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 50 would be offered in a reduced quantity, but AMG just announced that there will actually be only 5 models of the GT3 Edition 50 produced. Mercedes-AMG did the same with the SLS AMG GT3 Edition 45 that debuted five years ago. The five people that get to own the Edition 50 will need to take delivery at AMG’s headquarters in Affalterbach, Germany. They could also take part in a track driving coaching program organised by AMG, if they want to.
