2017 Mercedes-Benz Concept A Sedan

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz Concept A Sedan showed up this week at the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show where it wowed the attendees with a dazzling new look that will shape the Mercedes-Benz sedan lineup’s design direction for years to come. This new concept is expected to eventually morph into a production model off the same underbody structure that will replace the current A-Class.

Exterior

The design of the Mercedes-Benz Concept A Sedan shows an evolution of Benz’s design language and exemplifies a shift towards a new, clean cut design that features better defined proportions and smoother surfacing. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz Concept A Sedan measures 179.9 inches in length, which is about the same as the CLA, except the A Sedan should offer a greater amount of space inside the cabin because of its longer and flatter roof. Moreover, the concept’s windows are taller, while the C-pillars are more vertical and the overhangs are shorter in both the front and the rear.

Some of the standout features on this new 2017 Mercedes-Benz Concept A Sedan include the 20-inch wheels, A-wing splitter and a “Panamericana” grille. These are also features that we can expect to see in some of the future models that will come from Mercedes-AMG. However, some of the more flagrant elements like the ultra-low stance, flush door handles and the contrast providing headlight grid structure might be left behind. The grid, however, does come with special coating that allows the lights to have a different glow whether it’s the daytime running lights that are shining on it or the main headlight projector.

Platform

Mercedes has been selling a lot of their compacts that are based on the MFA front-wheel-drive platform, over two million to be exact. This concept first found success in 2012 when the outgoing A-Class hatch was introduced to the world. Now, it seems like Mercedes will be adding some more models that will be based on a new and improved MFA2 platform to build their next-generation compact car family.
Aside from the A-Class, Mercedes has plans to roll out new versions of the B-Class minivan, CLA coupe-like sedan, CLA wagon, and GLA urban SUV. There are also talks of a new rugged, G-Class-inspired SUV, and even a convertible.

2017 Mercedes-Benz Concept A Sedan Release Date and Price

Mercedes has no intention of releasing the 2017 Mercedes-Benz Concept A Sedan as is. Instead, the new concept is expected to transform into a brand-new A-Class sedan that we will hopefully see debut by the end of the year. But, as for the release date, it is not clear when we will the new A-Class hit the showrooms. The prices can, however, be expected to start at $40.000, about the same as the outgoing model.
