There’s another all electric luxury sedan is on its way. Fisker inc. just announced their plans to release the 2018 Fisker EMotion this August. This would make for quite a return from the newly-revived Californian car company that underwent a complete rebranding last year, following messy ordeal that led to Fisker Automotive’s structured bankruptcy auction in 2014. Now, refreshed and ready to launch their first official model, Fisker Inc. just released some teaser images for the EMotion ahead of its August debut.
The 2018 Fisker EMotion will be constructed with lightweight materials in mind. The engineers will use a combination of carbon fiber and aluminum in order to lower the curb weight and make the EMotion 20 percent lighter than other similarly sized vehicles, as promised by Fisker themselves.
The newly-released teaser images depict a bold, futuristic design with sculpted surfaces and a giant forward-leaning windshield that is submerged into a super low hood. In the back, the EMotion features a pretty wide set of haunches with a rather slender trunk opening in comparison. The trailing edge of the trunk lid can also be used as a spoiler and below it is a fully functioning diffuser.
You can venture to the inside of the vehicle through a super-cool butterfly doors, in the back as well as the front. The cabin will offer an ample amount of space for a mid-sized sedan, according to Fisker officials. This is mostly due to the compact nature of the electric powertrain and the wheels that are pushed to the corners.
Thanks to the EMotion’s relatively modest proportions and low height, the aerodynamics on this new model are expected to be efficient, to say the least. Fisker states that the EMotion will be capable of delivering well over 400 miles of range on a single charge. Also aiding the unprecedented range is the new graphene battery technology that is being produced with a little help from researchers at UCLA. Only other performance detail that was revealed, aside from the industry topping 400-plus-mile range, is the top speed that will reportedly reach 161 mph.
At Fisker Inc. they say that we can also expect to see the prevailing self-driving capabilities inside their new electric sedan as well. They are looking to include all the hardware that is needed for a full self-driving vehicle. The software that is required of them to do so is being developed by a as of yet unnamed partner that Fisker should reveal pretty soon.
2018 Fisker EMotion Release Date and Price
The 2018 Fisker EMotion will make its grand debut August 17th, which is a date that falls right in the middle of the Monterey Car Week. This leads us to believe that the Californian car company will make the town of Monterey and their annual car show the backdrop for the EMotion’s big reveal. The delivery date will be announced further down the line.
The starting price for the 2018 Fisker EMotion can be expected in excess of $100.000. However, if the EMotion finds success, Fisker will reportedly bring out a second, more affordable model that will be more in line with the likes of Chevrolet Bolt EV and the upcoming Tesla Model 3.
