If you’re looking for a full-size SUV with a side of luxury, than the 2018 GMC Yukon Denali might just be the car for you. GMC has just come out with the brand-new, refreshed model of their popular SUV. For the 2018 model year, the Yukon Denali is getting a more refined exterior styling, further trim enhancement and a brand-new smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic.

Exterior and Interior

In terms of design, the new Denali is understated as far as full-size SUV’s go. It isn’t as brash as its Cadillac Escalade couterpart, which is something more subtle types will certainly appreciate. At the front, GMC added a new, more chiseled grille that will reportedly offer more airflow to the radiator. Furthermore, active aero shutters were placed behind the grille to close in certain conditions when on the highway and to decrease aerodynamic drag and improve efficiency.

On the inside, there some updates and changes as well, but far less that on the outside. When purchasing the 2018 GMC Yukon Denali, you will be able to choose a brand-new wood trim. There will also be a choice between a standard size cabin or extra-spacious XL size. The XL is truly extra large, with over 14 inches more added to the wheelbase (20 inches overall).

Engine and Powertrain

GMC is keeping the Yukon Denali’s standard 6.2-liter V8 engine, which is capable of delivering up to 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The V8 also retains its cylinder-deactivation tech that further enhances the efficiency. One thing that is new is the 10-speed automatic transmission that came in place of the old 8-speed auto. The 10-speed is a brand-new unit General Motors developed in collaboration with Ford. You can already find it inside GM’s other full-size SUVs, as well as the new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. What makes this new 10-speed so special is its wider gear ratio spread that allows for a lower top gear ratio, resulting in a greater efficiency. GMC also says that specific tuning will help improve the smoothness and response times.
