The 2018 Infiniti QX80 was previewed earlier this year at the 2017 New York auto show when the company showcased their QX80 Monograph concept. But, it was just now that the Infiniti CEO Roland Kruger decided to share some details regarding the next model of the QX80 that were omitted from the New York auto show showcase. He confirmed that the QX80 will be going into production by the end of the year, but more importantly, it will be getting a full revamp for the 2018 model year.

Exterior

For this upcoming redesign, Infiniti will be closely relying on the QX80 Monograph concept which in turn took some ques from the QX Sport Inspiration concept that debuted at the Beijing auto show last year. The Monograph concept is colossal in size with over five meters in length, over two meters in width and height and a set of 24 inch wheels. It really is a sight to behold and this grandiose design is something that we are very interested to see get integrated into the slightly more compact Infiniti QX80. Aside from the exterior revamp, we ate also hearing that the interior will be getting some changes as well.

Engine and Powertrain

Unlike the exterior, the engine and powertrain setup will remain unchanged. The new and improved QX80 will reportedly be keeping the signature QX80 platform and the V8 engine. So, the body-on-frame construction, four-wheel drive, and the 8,500-pound towing capacity are all here to stay. The 5.6-liter V8 engine will be able to deliver up to 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. These same exact setup is being used by the new Nissan Armada, a reworked version of the Nissan Patrol that is sold across the pond.

Infiniti CEO also alluded to a possibility of the 2018 Infiniti QX80 being powered by a smaller engine. So, down the line we could also see the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine under the QX80’s hood. This engine produced up to 400 hp in its most potent configuration. Furthermore, it is no secret that Infiniti has been developing a hybrid powertrain system with this very engine. They showcased it in the Q60 Project Black S concept that debuted earlier this year at the 2017 Geneva auto show. This hybrid powertrain setup can reportedly produce nearly 500 horsepower.
