Exterior

The 2019 Alfa Romeo Stelvio will be underpinned by the same architecture as the striking Alfa Romeo Giulia. This means aluminum construction can be found in the doors, fenders, subframes, as well as assorted suspension pieces. In terms of design, the Stelvio follows Alfa Romeo’s new design language with features like the smooth and curvy body that will offer an alternative for anybody not seeking the typical aggressive SUV styling. Moreover, the curved front side retains the familiarity with the company’s trademark features, while the rest of the body, although voluptuous, manages to stay compact thanks to short overhangs. The wheel base on this new model is actually the same length as the Giulia, which may seem short for a crossover SUV, but the Stelvio does not imperil the interior room.

Engine and Powertrain

Under the hood, the new Stelvio will feature a choice between two powertrain options, starting with the a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine that is good for about 280 horsepower and 306 pound-feet or torque. This is the same unit found in its sedan counterpart, the aforementioned Giulia. The second, far more powerful option will be the new twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V-6, a powertrain giving you a Ferrari-like performance for the fraction of the price. The 90-degree sextuple delivers a staggering 505 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque and manages to race from 0 to 60 mph in just under 4 seconds, or 3.9 to be exact. This kind of performance is remarkable on a few levels. Not only is it unprecedented for a crossover vehicle, but once it is released it could bear the label of the cheapest under 4 second 0 to 60 SUV ever made.

The 2019 Alfa Romeo Stelvio will also come with a ZF 8-speed gearbox, as well as a refined suspension setup. Moreover, the vehicle will feature a standard all-wheel drive system, but the rear-wheel drive will be offered alongside it.
