2019 Audi A8 Preview and Spy Shots

2019 Audi A8

A prototype for the highly-anticipated next-generation 2019 Audi A8 was recently spotted testing. This new model will mark the fourth generation of the popular sedan, but a first one to be styled under the Marc Lichte’s watchful eye. Lichte took over the design department at Audi way back in 2013, but we are excited to see what he and his team have in store with this new model.

Exterior

Design-wise, the 2019 Audi A8 was first previewed by the Prologue concept series that introduced us to Lichte’s new design language for the entire Audi brand. And from what we can tell from these new spy shots, the new A8 has a lot in common with the concept series, as expected. In terms of size, the A8 looks a bit longer in the nose area, but that doesn’t seem to impact the overall size of the vehicle that much.

Underpinning the new 2019 Audi A8 will be the latest evolution of Audi’s MLB platform that can be found in a great number of Audi models, and even some Volkswagens. It first debuted alongside the new model of the Audi Q7. But, the best thing about this new MLB platform is the weight reduction it will bring to the new A8, as well as its compatibility with alternative powertrains.

Engine and Powertrain

As for the powertrain, Audi will most likely stick with the current lineup. The base level V6 and the V8 engine will be making a definite return, while the W12 is a little less certain, but we’re sure Audi would offer it at least one more time. Further down the line, the fourth generation of the A8 could welcome a plug-in hybrid option and even a fully electric model by the end of its life cycle. Furthermore, expect to see the new electric compressor featured in some models, particularly diesels. Just don’t expect to see any of those diesels stateside anytime soon.

Technology

As for the tech, the 2019 A8 is set to feature a new system that will be able to handle some situations in full self-driving mode. These situations will include parking and driving around the city at a speed of up to 37 mph with the Traffic Jam Pilot. Moreover, we are expecting updates to the infotainment system, new lighting technologies that will feature organic LED linghts in the taillights.
