The 2019 Ford Ranger, the pickup truck whose return everyone has been patiently waiting for since its untimely discontinuation is 2011, is officially coming back. Ford has answered the pleads, or what some may call demands of their ardent fans, and finally announced at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show that the new model of the Ranger is underway for the American market. And from what we have heard, we are all in for a treat.

2019 Ford Ranger Exterior and Interior

The Ford boss for the Americas, Joe Hinrichs, said at the Detroit Auto Show that the new 2019 Ford Ranger will be based off of the already existent European version of the Ranger (pictured below), and it will share some key design features with it. Therefore, expect to see the same singular front-end styling and the interior features as the Euro-market truck. However, be on the lookout for some stylistic ques from the new F-150, whose utilitarian aesthetic is slightly more on par with the American market demands.

Some key features that we would like to see carried over to the new US version are the Ford’s SYNC 2 in-car connectivity system with voice command, as well as the 8-inch touch screen. Furthermore, expect to see most of the driver assist features that are becoming exponentially popular among customers. Features like: Lane Departure Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control with Collision Warning and Forward Alert, Parking Assist, Hill Climb and Descent Assist and Emergency Brake Assistance.

2019 Ford Ranger Engine and Powertrain

When it comes to the engine, the new model will reportedly be using one of the European Rangers’ powertrains. Although, we must note that this has not been confirmed yet. The current 2016 model of the Ranger runs on a powerful five cylinder 3.2 liter TDCi engine with 3.2 that shells out about 197 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque. It also uses a far less powerful 2.2 liter TDCi Duratorq diesel engine that creates 158 horsepower and 385Nm of torque. So, the 2019 Ford Ranger could use a slightly updated version of these two power plants.

We will keep you updated when the engine and powertrain information becomes available.

2019 Ford Ranger Release Date and Price

The precise release date of the new Ford Ranger will become known further down the line, as we approach the 2019 model year. On the same note, the pricing is also yet to be announced, but we suspect that the starting amount will be right on par with the competition, whose starting price is about $25.000.
