2020-bmw-i8-3

The original i8 came in 2014. Five years later, it still turns so many heads, thanks to its super-futuristic design. However, it also has a couple of drawbacks and that is the reason why the company is already considering a completely new 2024 BMW i8. According to some reports, BMW engineers already work on the second generation, which is about to come even better. The focus will be on a new powertrain, though we count on novelties in other aspects as well. The new model should arrive in a year or two.

Pros

  • Completely redesigned
  • Much more power
  • Attractive, super-futuristic design

Cons

  • Tight cabin
  • Will probably remain slower than rivals
  • Way too expensive

Exterior

When it comes to the exterior design, we expect from the 2024 BMW i8 to continue with its recognizable super-futuristic styling approach. Of course, the company will continue with aesthetical improvements, so we should see the new model even more attractive. This aspect definitely won’t be a problem, even if we consider that the current model is competing with supercars like Audi R8, Mercedes-Benz GT, Porsche 911 and others. As you probably know, a convertible version has been introduced recently, so the current generation now comes in two body styles. We are pretty sure that the 2024 BMW i8 will continue in the same way, with both coupe and convertible models in the offer.

Interior

On the inside, you can count on nothing but lots of luxury. A futuristic design is fulfilled with premium quality materials and lots of standard equipment. We can presume that things are about to become even better after the redesign. We are pretty sure that a 2+2 seating configuration will remain, though we hope that ins and outs will be much more convenient this time. A list of standard equipment should be very long, which is something you would definitely expect from such an expensive car.

Engine

Although we’ve been hearing lots of speculations about the new, all-electric drivetrain, latest reports suggest that the 2024 BMW i8 will continue with a plug-in hybrid design. However, we expect much more power compared to the current model, which goes from zero to sixty in 4.5 seconds. We can easily agree that this is way too long for a supercar, especially if we look at numbers that competitors can provide. Therefore, the new model will probably use a bigger, four-cylinder gasoline engine instead of the current three-cylinder unit. Also, count on a more potent electric motor, so a max output will probably go between 450 and 500 horsepower. Also, count on a new transmission, definitely with more than six gears.

2020 BMW i8 Release Date and Price

The 2024 BMW i8 still waits for the official confirmation. Until then, we can only speculate about the possible release date. We expect the new model to come in about a year or two. We also don’t expect bigger changes in price compared to the current model, which goes around $147,500.
