At the time this mid-sedan was launched, the company had pretty big expectations from it. However, it became obvious that this model won’t be successful pretty soon. Reasons were numerous. Cramped rear seats, uninspiring styling, and below-average ride quality were some of them. Simply, it wasn’t good enough to be taken into consideration by most car buyers, especially once they realize that models like Toyota Camry or Honda Accord are in the same segment. Interestingly, the latest reports suggest its possible comeback already in the next year. For most car experts, this sounds quite unlikely, especially if we consider that this brand plans to focus on the crossover in the future. Therefore, take 2020 Chrysler 200 with a big dose of a reserve.
- New lightweight body and chassis
- Sporty handling
- Efficient engines
- It’s not coming
The potential comeback of the Chrysler 200 is pretty much theory at this point, so we can only rely on rumors and our own predictions. The previous generation was based on the FCA’s Global Wide platform, which is used for a pretty wide range of vehicles. According to some reports, Chrysler will focus on something more specific this time, so many believe it could get Alfa Romeo’s Giorgio platform, the one that is used for models like Giulia and Stelvio. There is no doubt that this architecture would guarantee far better performances and overall ride quality than before. Of course, a new styling is another potential issue, considering that the previous model looks pretty uninspiring.
At this point, we can only speculate about the 2020 Chrysler 200 interior. The new model is still miles away from production, so we can only hope that the new model would eventually fix some of the issues from the previous models. One of the most important is legroom, which is pretty tight in the recently discontinued model. On the other side, we must admit that this model features pretty upscale-looking cabin, full of quality materials. Also, there is plenty of cargo volume.
The previous generation featured two familiar units from Chrysler. Those were a 2.4-liter four-cylinder unit with 185 hp and a 3.6-liter V6 with around 295 horsepower. Two engines were characterized by a pretty decent fuel economy, but if the 2020 Chrysler 200 is about to ride on Giorgio platform, we could easily see some of the smaller and more efficient units. One of the candidates is a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which delivers pretty impressive 280 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. The same engine is available in a version with around 200 hp and 245 lb-ft.
2020 Chrysler 200 Release Date and Price
Considering the current situation in Chrysler and FCA, as well as pretty unsuccessful previous generation, the 2020 Chrysler 200 seems pretty much like a fantasy. Therefore, it is pointless to speculate about the launch date or price until we hear something from the officials, which most likely won’t happen.
