The 2020 Ford Kuga is about to come completely redesigned. That will be the third generation of this compact crossover, which is in North America known as the Escape. As you may presume, the new generation will come with lots of changes.
It will ride on a completely new platform and also come with a completely new styling. Also, count on completely new interior as well. Also, we count on some changes under the hood, considering that the current generation isn’t the most efficient model in the class. In any case, expect to see 2020 Ford Kuga in the second half of the year.
- New styling
- Wide engine offer
- Dashboard features good ergonomics
- Large cargo area
- Many rivals are more efficient
- Some rivals offer more space on the inside
The 2020 Ford Kuga will come completely new. So, let’s start with the most basic design characteristics. First of all, the new model will get a completely new platform. Without any doubt, that will be the same architecture that is used for the new Focus, which has been introduced recently.
We expect that the new design will provide better driving dynamics, as well as efficiency. Of course, we count on a new look as well. In terms of dimensions, the 2020 Ford Kuga will come with some minimal increase in wheelbase, but the overall proportions will remain pretty much the same. The overall shape and design language will look very close to the new Focus.
Of course, this redesign will also bring a new cabin to us. Once again, count on a lot of influence from the famous compact hatchback. The dashboard will be practically the same, which is a good thing. It is characterized by quality materials and seems quite durable.
Despite that a large tablet-like touchscreen will dominate the center stack, most controls will remain physical, which is the thing that most drivers will probably appreciate.
In terms of practicality and functionality, the new model should keep similar dimensions, so count on a similar cargo area, which in the current models offers around 40 cubic feet behind rear seats, which are pretty much average numbers for the class where you can find tons of good crossovers, such as Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5 etc.
When it comes to the powertrain lineup, we expect to see some changes. This particularly refers to gasoline units, which are among thirstiest in the class. On the other side, a familiar 2.0-liter turbodiesel will probably carry on without bigger modifications.
The current version comes in several output variants, between 140 and 180 horsepower. Of course, count on both manual and automatic transmissions in the offer.
2020 Ford Kuga Release Date and Price
The 2020 Ford Kuga is in the final stage of development. So, it should hit the market sometime in the second half of the year. We don’t expect bigger changes in price compared to the current model, which starts at around 25.000 Euros, or $28,000.
