The Forester is one of Subaru’s most popular models. Therefore, it’s not strange that it gets special treatment from the company’s engineers. Speaking of the special treatment, this compact crossover has been redesigned last year. The fifth generation came with a nice amount of novelties, but it looks that the 2020 Subaru Forester will have something interesting to show. Latest reports suggest that we are about to see novelties under the hood. It looks like there is a new turbo-four engine to come, though we are still waiting for the official confirmation.
- Great ride quality
- Potential turbo engine promises spectacular performances
- Hi-quality cabin
- Lots of standard equipment
- Base engine lacks power
- Conservative exterior design
In terms of base design characteristics, the 2020 Subaru Forester definitely won’t change. The recent redesign has brought a fine amount of novelties. There is a Subaru’s new Global Platform, which improves ride quality significantly and also brings improvements in efficiency and other aspects. On the other side, the styling somehow remained pretty familiar. It is new, of course, it really isn’t a big departure from the previous model. It features almost identical overall shape, while the front face leaves impression more of a mid-cycle update than of a complete redesign. You can see a more angular overall approach, but overall, the design language is kinda familiar.
While the exterior design features pretty conservative styling, free of any important change, the interior has been improved significantly with the recent redesign. In the past, Subaru was known as a company that doesn’t pay too much attention to interior styling. This time, things are much different. This is one of the best-looking cabins you can find in the class, especially when it comes to the quality of interior materials. The attractive styling is combined with the company’s famous practicality and functionality pretty well, while the list of standard equipment is pretty impressive. Also, there is plenty of space in the cargo area, which measures around 35 cubic feet behind rear seats and 71 cubic feet of overall cargo capacity.
The current models are amazing in pretty much all aspects except the engine. It uses a familiar 2.5-liter atmospheric unit that is good for about 185 horsepower and comes in pair with a CVT. Of course, the company’s famous AWD system is standard. It features pretty impressive fuel economy, which goes around 27 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. However, it feels underpowered compared to rivals like Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, Toyota Rav4 etc. Therefore, we are about to see the company’s new 2.4-liter turbo-four in the offer. It delivers around 260 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. There is no other model in the class that can match these numbers, so we can just imagine how good this version would be.
2020 Subaru Forester Release Date and Price
The 2020 Subaru Forester should hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year. We don’t count on changes in price, so base models should go around $24.000.
