The new, third generation of this mid-size crossover came with some pretty radical changes in terms of base design characteristics. After the recent redesign, it is pretty much legal to say that this crossover finally entered the premium segment.

Despite the badge, this crossover is able to compete with pretty much every premium crossover, in terms of quality. The 2024 Volkswagen Touareg will continue in the same. We don’t expect to see bigger changes in terms of design, though some reports suggest additions in terms of new powertrain options. Still, we don’t expect to see it on the market before the end of the year.

Pros

  • Luxurious cabin
  • Lots of legroom
  • Wide engine offer
  • Plenty of tech goodies

Cons

  • High price tag
  • Lack of environment-friendly powertrain options

Exterior

The 2024 Volkswagen Touareg will definitely continue with the same overall design characteristics. Just like its premium siblings like Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne, it rides on a new MLB platform. Compared to the previous generation, the new model is slightly bigger, but also larger. In terms of the styling, you can count on VW’s typical layout.

The model is based on the company’s newest design language, though there is a couple of distinctive details, which accentuate models premium-grade quality. This primarily refers to lighting groups. Given the recent redesign, the 2024 Volkswagen Touareg is about to continue in the same way.

Interior

The interior will continue to be the model’s strongest points. The 2024 Volkswagen Touareg won’t come with any notable changes, except maybe new color schemes. The first thing that you’ll notice is a significant improvement in terms of the overall interior quality.

It’s not just about soft-touch surfaces and hi-quality materials. This cabin also offers a lot of styles, which is pretty classical. A huge 15-inch touchscreen dominates on the center stack, while a familiar digital instrument cluster makes this cabin comparable with pretty much every premium mid-size crossover around.

Engines

The Touareg is no longer available in North America. So, it’s no wonder that diesel engines are predominately offered. Base models feature a familiar 3.0-liter TDI V6 engine, which is good for about 230 horsepower. The same engine is available with 286 horsepower.

Finally, there is a huge V8 diesel engine, which delivers around 423 hp. Of course, a familiar 3.0-liter gasoline V6 engine is available as well, while the next year should bring a hybrid version in the offer. Currently, the electrified version is available in China only but should come to other parts of the world.

2020 Volkswagen Touareg Release Date and Price

The 2024 Volkswagen Touareg is expected to come in a typical time of year, sometime in the last quarter. When it comes to the price, base models will go around € 60.000 Euros, which is around $67,500.
