One of the most anticipated models of the season, the 2018 Honda Civic Type R is finally ready to debut next month at the 2017 Geneva Auto Show. Honda has only been releasing prototypes for the Type R in recent years, but it has been officially announced that the actual production model will soon premiere at Geneva. The Type R has always signified excitement on a budget and we expect to see more of the same with this new model, but nonetheless we are excited about what’s to come.

Perhaps the most exciting thing about the new Type R is that it will finally be making its way to the US market. The Civic Type R is one of the more beloved and coolest cars on the global scale, but strangely enough Honda never decided to offer it up to its American fans. But, this is all about to change in the 2018 model year when the Type R shows up at American dealerships.

Even though we don’t have much information about the new 2018 Honda Civic Type R, we tried to include some of our predictions for the key aspect of this new model below, so take a look.

Design

From the design stand point we expect the new Type R to mostly take after its prototype forebears. We expect to see all the critical Type R features like the aggressive hood scoop, carbon fiber splitter, and the extended wheel arches. It also wouldn’t be a Civic Type R without a staple rear spoiler. We also expect to see some smoked lenses for the LED headlights. But, for the real deal we’ll need to tune in next month when the 2018 Honda Civic Type R debuts at the Geneva Auto Show.

Engine and Powertrain

Reportedly the new Civic Type R will be powered by a brand-new Honda engine, the 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline unit. However, we don’t know the official power output this engine is going to produce just yet. But considering that the previous model of the Type R offered up to 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, we think that the new model will deliver somewhat more power than that, but not too much.
