The 2019 Ram 1500 has just been spotted testing. One of Ram’s most popular workhorses was in need of a redesign for a while now, and it looks like Ram is finally getting ready to release an updated version of the pickup truck. The new model is expected to feature changes and improvements in every department, form the exterior design to the much needed powertrain update.
Exterior and Interior
In terms of design the new 2019 Ram 1500 seems to be getting a more modern look, even with the cross hair grille still intact. From what we can tell from the spy shots, headlights have been slimmed down a bit in order to better incorporate the LED technology. The prototype captured by the spy cameras featured a pretty sizable cab, giving us an impression that the new generation of the pickup truck will also be offered in a Mega Cab option. The platform serving as a base for the new Ram 1500 will be the new body-on-frame platform. The body itself will be mostly constructed of steel, but considerable sections will be reserved for lightweight materials such as aluminum, in order to reduce the vehicle’s curb weight.
Inside, we don’t expect to see many changes to the layout of the cabin, but the new model will see an addition of a large display screen that will be prominently featured at the top of the center stack. There will also be some large rotary dials situated right below it. Moreover, the rotary dial controller that is meant for the transmission will also be featured.
Engine and Powertrain
The new Ram 1500 is expected to be powered by the same old setup, which includes the 3.6-liter V-6 engine, as well as the 5.7-liter V-8. There could also be turbocharging setup put in place, but we’ll see when the official specs get released. Moreover, we also expect to see a torque-filled oil burner offered as one of the options on the 2019 Ram 1500, irregardless of the Fiat Chrysler’s recent diesel woes. We also expect to see some far more powerful V8 engine options, which will include the rumored Ram rival of the Ford F-150 Raptor. And speaking of rumors, a possible mild-hybrid technology is reportedly being considered over at Fiat Chrysler Automotive.
2019 Ram 1500 Release Date and Price
The 2019 Ram 1500 is yet to receive a release date but the new generation of the popular pickup is expected to make its debut by the end of the year, beginning of 2018 at the latest. The pricing should stay more of the same, with the base price starting at about $26.500.
