According to some recent official announcements, it seems that the Ford brand has been planning to discontinue some of its most popular models soon, including Fiesta and Taurus. On the other hand, the well-known Ford Taurus might hit the market as a 2022 Ford Taurus model before the company officially ends its production, at least the fans hope so.

Exterior

If the Taurus actually survives and appears as a 2022 Ford Taurus model, it will hit the market as a full-size four-door family sedan. It should also seem more attractive and modern than its predecessor, but some speculations say that it could get smaller dimensions. Namely, the car could come shorter and wider, which will improve its stability and handling, but it might affect the interior space. However, the sedan should improve its aerodynamics and therefore, its overall performance. When it comes to exterior design, the fans will probably notice some visual updates and changes in both front and rear fascia. For instance, the Taurus will get a redesigned mesh grille and LED lighting system. In the back part, you will find twin exhaust pipes and a small spoiler which will give this model a sportier look. Finally, the base model should stand on 19-inch wheels, but as we have already mentioned, all these details have been based on rumors only.

Interior

The interior of the Ford Taurus has often been compared to some Lincoln models, which means that if the 2022 model appears, it will definitely provide some luxurious and comfortable cabin. You can expect leather seats that will offer options such as heating and cooling and a heated steering wheel that will be wrapped in leather as well. Besides that, the company should upgrade its high-tech area so the driver will probably get a smaller 4.2-inch information display in the instrument cluster and a larger infotainment touch-screen in the center console with features such as USB ports, dual-zone climate control, navigation, sound system, Apple Car Play and Android Auto. Speaking of technology, its safety systems and driver assist features will be improved as well. Some of them would include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, active park assist and lane-keeping assist.

Engine

Under the hood of the 2022 Ford Taurus, the most probable engine choice would include a 3.5-liter V6 that delivers the output of 288 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque. Its higher trim level SHO could use a more powerful 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that hits 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. The other options and numbers, including the speculated hybrid version are yet to be confirmed, if the new Taurus hits the market.

2020 Ford Taurus Release Date and Price

If the last production model of Ford Taurus ever hits the market, it should happen by the end of 2019. Also, the price of a base model has been estimated at $28,000.

Pros:

  1. more than one engine choice
  2. possible hybrid version
  3. updated design and technology.

Cons:

  1. it may never actually happen.
