When the current BRZ arrived seven years ago, it came along with the Toyota 86, which was a spiritual successor of the legendary GT1000. Both models were designed to provide excellent driving dynamics and to put the driver on first place. After all these years, we can say that two companies did a good job. Still, the competition is getting tougher and tougher, so we are about to see a new model soon. The 2020 Subaru BRZ Turbo will come completely redesigned and it is about to bring lots of novelties, including a completely new engine.
Pros
- Completely redesigned
- Powerful turbo engine
- Excellent handling
- Driver-oriented cabin
Cons
- Tight cabin
- Very limited cargo space
Exterior
In terms of the exterior design, we expect to see a close relationship with the 86 once again. Two models currently feature pretty much identical exterior design, with minimal differences. In current models, the only notable is the front bumper, which is slightly reshaped in this case. We can only presume that new models will also feature a similar appearance. Same goes to the mechanics. Two companies are working on a new chassis, which is about to improve driving characteristics even more. Of course, a new setup will definitely include Subaru’s famous AWD system, which has been the company’s trademark for decades.
Interior
The biggest complaint about the current generation is definitely interior design. So, we count on lots of improvements with this redesign. Of course, this refers mainly to the dashboard layout, which should come with a more stylish dashboard layout, though we are pretty sure that the company is going to keep its simplicity and focus on driver once again. On the other side, we don’t expect bigger changes in dimensions. So, if a small trunk of the current model is something that bothers you, don’t expect anything bigger in the new model either. Finally, one of the biggest drawbacks of the current model is a pretty short list of standard and available features. We definitely expect to see some improvements in this aspect.
Engine
Without any doubt, the engine will be the most important novelty of the 2024 Subaru BRZ Turbo. After all, that is the reason why the next generation will get “Turbo” in its name. Instead of the current 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated engine from Toyota, the new BRZ will come with Subaru’s new 2.4-turbo inline-four engine, with a max power of 260 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Compared to the current model, that is 60 hp more, not to mention unbelievable additional 130 lb-ft of torque. With such boost, the new model will definitely be in a huge advantage compared to biggest rivals, Mazda MX-5, and Fiat 124 Spider, but also competitive with much bigger muscle cars like Mustang and Camaro.
2020 Subaru BRZ Turbo Release Date and Price
We are still waiting for some more precise info about the 2024 Subaru BRZ Turbo release day. At this point, we know that the new model will come in about a year or two. Price probably won’t go too much higher, which would mean around $25,000 for base versions.
