Before the 2017 New York Auto Show commences on April 12th, Acura decided to give us a preview of their new 2018 Acura TLX with this new teaser image. This new model is set for a showcase in New York where by the looks of it, Acura will debut a drastically revamped design, which is just what this line needed if it is to combat the lackluster sales. The TLX saw a sales slump of nearly 10,000 units last year, compared to its first official year on the market when it replaced the TL and TSX, so maybe a complete overhaul is just what is necessary to get the TLX back on the right track.
What’s new?
According to the teaser picture, the 2018 Acura XTL takes a lot of inspiration from the Precision concept, which first made waves at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show. The Precision concept’s stylings first made their way into the 2017 MDX and now it looks like the same combination of grille, logo and headlights will appear on the 2018 XTL as well. One feature that won’t be incorporated into the new design is the shield shaped grille, even if it was a more toned down version of the polarizing grille design. Instead the new TLX will feature a “diamond pentagon”, Precision concept grille. Other notable new features include a sculpted hood and LED headlights.
Acura also promises multiple technology enhancements that will reportedly make the 2018 Acura TLX one of the most “technologically advanced and well-equipped cars,” but more on that will be disclosed at the New York showcase.

Engiene and Powertrain
When it comes to the powertrain, Acura wasn’t generous enough to share any details. But despite all the changes in terms of design and tech, we thing that under the hood, the TLX will stay more of the same. We expect to see the same 206 horsepower, 2.4-liter inline-4 cylinder engine, as well as the more powerful 3.5-liter V-6 unit with a 290 horsepower output. Both versions should come with the standard front wheel drive, while the V6 might offer an all-wheel option as well. The transmission should also stay the same, with a choice between the 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox and the 9-speed automatic.
