A serious performance contender on a budget? The new 2018 Kia Stinger could prove to be just that. It seems like speed enthusiasts have been waiting for a decent and affordable, rear-wheel drive compact sedan for a lifetime. But, the South Korean automaker, Kia, are finally answering their prayers with the release of this stylishly sporty sedan, which is the first in a hopefully long-running line of Kia sport-oriented vehicles.
2018 Kia Stinger Exterior and Interior
In terms of design, the new Stinger features a heavily detailed exterior that might seem somewhat busy to some. But, its chiseled arches and athletic hunches are certainly appealing. The design itself takes a lot of cues from Kia’s familiar GT Concept, and somewhat from famous designs of European greats like Alfa Romeo and Maserati.
Inside, it is pure luxury. From nappa leather seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, to rich chrome accents. Furthermore, on the instrument cluster Kia included a touchscreen that can display useful performance data such as speed, lap times and G forces. But the fun doesn’t stop there. The Stinger offers a fashionably designed infotainment system with a variety of features and a 15-speaker, 720-watt audio system from Harman/Kardon. Additionally, both rows of seats offer ample amount of room. Although, the passengers in the back could use a little more head space.
From the safety department, some of the standout features include: automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, a heads-up system, as well as a fatigue sensor that sends audio alerts if it senses you are tires. Pretty cool, indeed.

2018 Kia Stinger Engine and Powertrain
The Stinger will have two powertrain options. The first, a 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine that offers 255 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, and the second, a 3.3-liter twin turbo V-6 that delivers an intimidating 365-hp and 376 pound-feet of torque, and it comes on at only 1,400 rpm. According to Kia, the V6 will be able to go from zero to 60 mph in moderate 5 seconds.
Moreover, the power will be transmitted to rear wheels though an eight-speed automatic gearbox, which will unfortunately be the sole option. However, Kia more than makes up for it with the addition of a pair of paddle shifters situated behind the steering wheel.
2018 Kia Stinger Release Date and Price
The new 2018 Kia Stinger will be released later this year, and although Kia is yet to reveal the official price information, the new Stinger is expected to undercut the BMW Series 3 and the Cadillac ATS and start at about $30.000, which is would make it the most affordable performance compact sedan on the market.
