2018 Lamborghini Urus has finally been spotted and we also have the conformation that this SUV will be sticking with the Urus name, the name of the 2012 concept that previewed the Italian luxury car company’s first ever sports utility vehicle. The prototype for the 2018 Urus was captured testing in Denmark and the local website Pro-Street was the first to publish the spy shots, and we have obtained one of them and it is featured below.

These images reveal that the production model of the Urus will be more cumbersome than the concept vehicle. The new model also ditches the pumped fenders, but thankfully the Countach inspired wheel arches are still there.

The Urus SUV is underpinned by the MLB platform that can also be found in other Volkswagen Group SUVs such as the Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga. Although, the Urus will have its own distinguishable characteristics since the Lambo designers are said to be using new carbon-fiber materials instead of the steel and aluminum parts of old.

Engine and Powertrain

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but the new Urus is expected to feature the twin-turbocharged V8 beneath its hood. Our best bet is the 4.0-liter engine design that is used by some of the aforementioned Volkswagen Group vehicles. Inside the Urus, we expect this engine to deliver anywhere between 500 and 600 ponies, but we’ll have to wait and see. What we do know is that the 2018 Urus will be followed up with a hybrid version shortly after.

While most of the people interested in the new Lambo SUV will be buying it for its on-road action, Lamborghini has announced that it will have some commendable off-road capabilities as well. The new Urus will incorporate various modes in which you can easily navigate through difficult terrain like the sand, snow and gravel. Speaking of model, the Ego mode found in the Aventador S, could also find its way into the new Urus.
