The Tacoma is a class-leader for many good reasons. However, the competition is getting tougher and tougher, so Japanese manufacturer plans some interesting additions for the next year. According to the latest reports, the company will offer new powertrains options. The 2023 Toyota Tacoma Diesel is about to come with an efficient oil-burner, which should be a great alternative for all those who prefer a more economical ride, not to mention better-towing capacity.
Other than a new engine, the next-year model will probably remain the same. Expect to see it in the last quarter of the year.
- Great fuel economy
- Excellent off-road capabilities
- High payload capacity
- Amazing predicted reliability
- Some rivals feature more refined interiors
The 2023 Toyota Tacoma Diesel definitely won’t feature any notable difference when it comes to the exterior design. The current generation is present for about three years and we are pretty sure that the company will wait for another year or two to introduce some visual updates.
Until then, the Tacoma will continue with a familiar styling. Same goes for the mechanics. The 2020 Toyota Tacoma Diesel won’t feature differences compared to standard gasoline models. Of course, there is an off-road TRD Pro version, but it is still unclear whether the new diesel engine will be available in this version or not.
On the inside, we definitely won’t see bigger changes. The 2023 Toyota Tacoma Diesel will feature the same interior layout, which is characterized by plenty of space and good overall quality. All materials feature high quality, though we must say that rivals like Honda Ridgeline or new Ford Ranger feature a little bit more refined cabins, with more soft-touch surfaces.
Still, that doesn’t change the fact that the Tacoma has a great cabin, which is built to last for decades. Of course, the biggest difference compared to gasoline models will be a new instrument cluster, which will probably be borrowed from the legendary Hilux. Other than that, we could see new color schemes and maybe some tweaks in terms of standard equipment.
When it comes to the powertrain, there is no doubt that the 2023 Toyota Tacoma Diesel will borrow the engine from Hilux. Of course, we are talking about an efficient 2.8-liter unit, which is good for about 180 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque.
Some reports suggest a slight power increase, though we haven’t heard anything from the officials yet. In any case, count on a significantly improved fuel economy and maybe even better-towing capacity compared to the V6 model.
2020 Toyota Tacoma Diesel Release Date and Price
We expect to see 2023 Toyota Tacoma Diesel sometimes in the last quarter of the year. Compared to base models, the price will definitely be higher. Some rough estimation would go around $30,000.
