One of Aston Martin’s most anticipated releases for the next model year is the 2018 Aston Martin DB11 Volante. The luxury car company followed-up their hugely-successful DB9 model with the DB11 last year. But with releasing it only in coupe form, Aston Martin left a lot of convertible fans wanting more, although they were able to rest easy by the fall of last year when teasers for the new Volante surfaced and gave us a first preview of what’s to come. But now we get an even better look at the Volante as a number of spy shots of the new model testing on the icy roads of Sweden are released.

Exterior

It looks like Aston Martin is sticking with the soft top first featured on the teaser images. This is the right choice since a soft top requires far less room when folded compared to a hard-top, and allows for the sleek silhouette to remain. Soft tops also tend to be lighter, and DB11 being a grand tourer, less weight is always better. Although, being a convertible, the 2018 Aston Martin DB11 Volante will need to add some weight that is required for strengthening. This means that the new model could easily weigh more than 4000 lbs. Aside from this new roof and minor structural changes, the Volante looks almost identical to the DB11. This could mean that the new model will feature aluminum and carbon fiber construction as well as a minimalistic and luxurious interior.

Engine and Powertrain

Under the hood of the new Aston Martin Volante you will be able to find a twin-turbocharged 5.2-liter V-12 engine, which will be a standard powertrain for this model. That is because by the time Volante hits the showrooms, the DB11 could start offering an entry-level V8. Nevertheless, the standard V12 will be able to deliver a staggering 600 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. All the power will be sent through an eight-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels.

Furthermore, thanks to the added weight, this new model’s 0-62mph time could slightly increase to about 4.3 seconds, while the top speed could be set at 200mph, placing the Volante among the fastest convertibles around. However, we will have to wait for the official performance figures and details to know for sure.

2018 Aston Martin DB11 Volante Release Date and Price

The 2018 Aston Martin DB11 Volante is scheduled for a spring 2018 release date, but fist expect to get a preview of the new model at some of this year’s major auto shows. Nothing has been disclosed in terms of price just yet, but we suspect that the new convertible model will start a s slightly higher price that the current DB11 coupe’s $211,995 price point.
