A prototype that will most likely turn out to be the 2018 Bugatti Chiron was just spotted running laps at the famed Nürburgring Nordschleife track. While we aren’t sure exactly why Bugatti is testing the car, we do know that it can’t be anything other than a prototype because it was spotted during an industry day and it is sporting a matte black finish without any badge or signature Bugatti marking.
Why is it testing?
Considering the 2017 model of the Chiron has just come out, it might be considered too soon to start prepping the new model, but stranger things have happened. The best explanation could be that the luxury car company is testing the hybrid version of the Chiron. Bugatti is known for offering up multiple iterations of their vehicles, the Bugatti Veyron might be the best example of that. And a hybrid technology seems like the natural next step for the Chiron, but it does still seem awfully early to be already testing it. Moreover, the current model of the Chiron seems to be doing pretty good sales wise, so it would be logical for the new variant to be pushed back a bit to give the original time to establish itself. Nevertheless, we’d welcome a new version of the Chiron anytime Bugatti sees fit.
A different explanation for the Nürburgring testing might be that Bugatti is looking to get the official Nürburgring lap time and this whole thing is just about their preparation for such an event. But all of this is just our best educated guess, and well need to wait and see exactly why was the Chiron prototype at the ‘Ring.
2018 Bugatti Chiron Release Date and Price
If the new 2018 Bugatti Chiron is on the way, we expect to see it by the start of next year when it will be introduced as a 2018 model. In terms of price, the new model’s base price should’t diverge much from the current model’s. So, expect the 2018 Bugatti Chiron to remain priced at the ridiculous $2.700.000 starting amount.
