The 2018 Techrules GT96 is the Chinese startup company’s brand-new, all-electric supercar that is scheduled to appear at the 2018 Geneva Auto Show. But, ahead of the official March 9th start date in Geneva, the pictures of the GT96 prototype have surfaced and made their way onto the interwebs. The new GT96 was pictured testing at the Monza compound in Italy, driven by professional race car driver Manuel Lauck.

Exterior

The 2018 Techrules GT96 prototype was reportedly designed by Italdesign boss Giorgetto Giugiaro, who came up with a rather rousing design, complete a new flip-up door mechanism. There are indications that the new GT96 will have a three-seat layout coupled with a central driving position, a setup that right-away draws comparison to the McLaren F1.

Moreover, according to a teaser sketch from Techrules, the new model will come with three jet fighter-style canopies, on for each passenger. But curiously enough, just one of the canopies and one driver seat can be spotted on these images of the new prototype. So, that is why some may argue that this is just a version that will be used strictly for racetrack purposes, that will be labeled as an AT96.

Engine and Powertrain

There is still no word on the powertrain options for the new GT96. The initial prototype from 2016 featured a Turbine-Recharging Electric Vehicle (TREV) powertrain that relies on a small jet turbine that generates all the electricity, as well as charges the battery pack. And it comes full circle after that, since the battery sends the back the power to the motors that drive the wheels. If this sounds familiar, Jaguar first introduced a similar idea back in 2010 with their C-X75 concept.
